My name is Mike Bommarito co-founder and Chairman of Us Against Cancer and a cancer survivor. I first was diagnosed with testicular cancer in early 2005 and yet again in 2011. I have been through many surgeries and chemotherapy and happy to say that I am healthy as of today! Going through the process was long and very tough at times and some of the things I experienced really changed me as a person. That’s the reason we have created Us Against Cancer to help fund cancer research and raise awareness.
I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and attended Chaminade College Prep for High School and The University of Missouri Columbia (Mizzou) for my undergrad where I was awarded the Evans Scholarship and majored in computer science. Out of college I worked for an amazing promotional product company GatewayCDI where I learned pretty much everything I know today. I currently run Bommarito Design which is a web development / consulting firm located in St. Louis MO.
I would never have been the person I am today without the love and support of my entire family and specifically my mother Joan Bommarito who has made me the man I am today.
Us Against Cancer would not have evolved to what it is today without the help of the Macias family specifically Gisela Macias and Ramon Macias.
Gisela Macias is co-founder for Us Against Cancer and is originally from the West Coast although she now resides in St. Louis, MO. Born in Los Angeles, CA Gisela moved to San Diego, CA at a young age where her family currently resides. Gisela and Mike met on a vacation where they continued their communication after their initial meeting. Gisela moved to St. Louis in mid 2011 where she was by Mike’s side through his treatment process.
Gisela received her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies at San Francisco State University and received her Teaching Credentials at San Diego State University. Gisela is currently a kindergarten teacher at Kratz Elementary, where in her first year she won the First Class Teacher award. Teaching has always been her passion as she has volunteered in many daycares and became the Program Assistant at PrimeTime Extended Day Program. Gisela’s primary goals were to help children develop to their fullest potential by focusing on physical and recreational skills, self-awareness, confidence, and feelings of self-worth. Gisela assisted in promoting creativity and self-expression along with independence, decision making, and interpersonal relationships.
When Gisela is not teaching she likes to snowboard, read, workout, travel, and help others.

Stephen Brooks is the co-founder and treasurer of Us Against Cancer. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from Parkway Central High School in 1996, he attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. While at IU, he honed his strength and passion for detail and numbers which lead him to a double major in accounting and finance. After graduating from IU in 2000, Stephen began his career in public accounting in Chicago, Illinois. After working in the city for a year, he and his wife moved to the suburbs of Chicago where he continued his career in public accounting as a CPA.
After graduating from the University of Illinois with a Masters of Science in Taxation in 2006 and obtaining the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation, Stephen and his wife moved back home to St. Louis where he continued his career in public accounting. In 2010, after 10 years of being employed within the public accounting profession, Stephen founded his own tax and financial planning practice SRB & Associates, LLC based upon the principals of integrity, dedication, and perseverance with the underlying goal of understanding the financial goals of his clients in order to provide timely, positive, and objective tax and financial planning solutions. In January 2012, he merged his practiced into ROI Business Services, LLC. For more about ROI Business Services, LLC, click here.
Stephen has always looked for opportunities to give back to his community. Us Against Cancer was the perfect combination to provide opportunities to fund cancer research and provide the needed tax compliance requirements that a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization must adhere to. Working with inspiring and motivated individuals like Mike Bommarito, Gisela Macias, and Ramón Macias made that opportunity even more attractive.
Stephen, his wife and two sons live in St. Charles, Missouri. When he is not spending time at the office, with his family, or working with Us Against Cancer to help make a difference, he’s probably running, which is his next love. Since 2001, Stephen has competed in 19 marathons, 3 triathlons, and 3 ultra-marathons.
